Brewers Looking for the Dust Pan

The Brewers had to have been happy to be playing the Bucs this weekend. Not only has the Pirates pitching struggled this season, but the offense has been struggling as well since the losses of Bay and Nady. It should not be a surprise, therefore, that the Brewers pulled off the sweep.

The final game of the series took 12 innings, but JJ Hardy hit a walk-off single to end the series. The Pirates got good pitching again from Paul Maholm. He gave up 12 hits, but only 2 runs. Bautista gave up 1 run in 2 innings. Capps, Grabow, and Yates all pitched a scoreless inning. Jason Davis gave up the winning run in the 12th. The pitchers struggled with SS Hardy (3-for-5), 3B Bill Hall (3-for-4), and CF Mike Cameron (5-for-5 with a HR).

On the offensive side, CF Nyjer Morgan stayed hot, going 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. SS Jack Wilson, C Ryan Doumit, and LF Brandon Moss each went 2-for-6. The Pirates, as a team, recorded 16 hits.

One item of note. Two of the more easy going people in the Major Leagues had blow ups today. 1B Adam LaRoche and Manager John Russell were both tossed in the 6th inning after LaRoche disagreed with a strike three call. This is a rarity for both men. I am not positive, but this may be the first ejection of the year for Russell.
