Pirates: Good News & Bad News

GOOD NEWS
The Pirates signed their 16th round selection, OF Wesley Freeman. He is a high-risk, high-reward prospect so it is good to see the Pirates go after a guy like him aggressively. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that he was given a bonus comparable to a fifth rounders (somewhere over $225,000). Freeman hit .478 in his senior year at All Saints Academy High School in Lakeland, FL.

3B Andy LaRoche could return as early as Sunday.

1B Adam LaRoche could begin a rehab assignment on Monday

BAD NEWS
SS Jack Wilson was scratched from the lineup tonight due to shoulder tightness. He is listed as day-to-day. Luis Rivas replaced Wilson at SS and batted 8th.

SP Phil Dumatrait had season-ending surgery. Dumatrait started the season in the bullpen but was moved to the rotation when Matt Morris was cut and performed well.
