Reds 5 - Pirates 1

SP Jeff Karstens gave up his first runs as a Pirate last night on a two-run homerun in the first inning. He would settle down and give up only 3 total earned runs and 1 unearned run in seven innings. The offense did not come to his aid in this game, however. 3B Andy LaRoche drove in the only run on a double in the fourth inning. Though the Pirates looked ready for a comeback many times in the game, they stranded 17 runners.
