4/17 Baseball Round-Up

Sorry for how late this is up.  A quick write-up, then some more content for you later tonight and tomorrow, not necessarily Pirate-related. The Pirates were able to get a last-inning win, but their affiliates went 0-4. Inside find write-ups for Pirates vs. Diamondbacks, Indianapolis Indians vs. Columbus Clippers, Altoona Curve vs. Harrisburg Senators, Bradenton Marauders vs. Palm Beach Cardinals, and West Virginia Power vs. Asheville Tourists.



Pittsburgh Pirates (4-7) lost 5-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks (7-4)
WP: Jason Grilli (1-1)  S: Juan Cruz (1)  LP: Bryan Shaw (0-2)
Most of the Pirates offense in this game came from the 3-4-5 part of the order.  McCutchen, Walker, and Jones combined for 10 of the Pirates 13 hits and knocked in all of the Pirates' runs.  Garrett Jones hit his second homerun of the season in the 6th inning.  A ninth inning RBI single from McCutchen gave the Pirates the win.
AAA: Indianapolis Indians (5-7) lost 5-1 to the Columbus Clippers
WP: Corey Kluber (3-0)  S: Chris Ray (3)  LP: Justin Wilson (1-2)
CF Gorkys Hernandez drove in the only Indianapolis run in this game with a single in the 6th inning.  RF Brandon Boggs and C Kris Watts each had two hits for the Indians.


AA: Altoona Curve (5-6) lost 4-0 to the Harrisburg Senators
WP: Jeff Mandel (1-1)  S: Hector Nelo (1)   LP: Mike Colla (0-2)
3B Jeremy Farrell and RF Adalberto Santo each had two hits for the Curve.  However, the team went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

A+: Bradenton Marauders (5-7) lost 9-6 to the Palm Beach Cardinals
WP: Seth Maness (2-0)  LP: Colton Cain (0-1)
1B Alex Dickerson went 4 for 5 for the Marauders.  CF Mel Rojas and 3B Stefan Welch each had two hits and combined to drive in three runs.  SP Colton Cain gave up 6 runs (4 earned) in four innings. 


A: West Virginia Power (5-8) lost 12-7 to the Asheville Tourists
WP: Chris Jensen (1-0)  LP: Porfirio Lopez (0-1)
West Virginia RP Porfirio Lopez gave up 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning.  CF Junior Sosa had three hits while SS Alen Hanson and 1B Jose Osuna each had two
