The Steelers re-signed Trai Essex today. The importance of this may be overlooked as Essex is no world breaker at any position. However, Essex is a capable back-up at center, guard, and tackle. Pittsburgh also hosted ILB prospect Dont'a Hightower today.
Trai Essex signed a one year deal to return to the Steelers today. Essex appeared in all 16 regular season games last season, starting in 3. In his seven year career, he has started in 28 games. The only season in which he started every game was 2009. The Steelers selected Essex in the third round of the 2005 draft.
The Steelers also hosted some prospects from this year's draft. ILB Dont'a Hightower (Alabama), RB LaMichael James (Oregon), TE David Paulson (Oregon), and G Amini Silatolu (Midwestern State) all met with the Steelers today. Two of these men appear in my Steelers' Mock Draft. I have the Steelers selecting Hightower in round one and Silatolu in round two.
G/C Doug Legursky has also signed his tender to return to Pittsburgh today.
